MEAM.Design - MEAM 201 - 10: Piston Connecting Rod

To transmit motion from the piston (part 03) to the web (part 05), you're going to need to design and manufacture a small connecting rod. A few notes:

1. We will provide you with a 0.1250" OD clevis pin to help interface the piston to the connecting rod. You will want to ensure that this is a low-friction joint.
2. You will need to create a second low-friction joint between the connecting rod and the provided return crankshaft (which will be attached to the upper hole in the web).
3. The center-to-center distance from the clevis pin to the return crankshaft should be 2.656".
4. Pay attention to potential interference between the connecting rod and the piston cylinder, especially when the piston is at BDC (bottom dead center).
5. We will provide 1/8" sheet stock in 6061-T6 aluminum, MDF, and acrylic.
6. We have a number of items that you might like to use for low-friction rotational joints, including bronze bushings (0.1875" ID, 0.2500" OD, 0.375") and ball bearings (0.1875" ID, 0.3125" OD, 0.125").
