Assignment
Use SolidWorks, SolidCAM, and the MiniMill to create some desk candy!

Deliverables
1. Completed desk candy.

Guidelines
*Cutting time will be scheduled in 3 hour time slots. Scheduling coming soon!

  • You must have a maximum simulated cutting time of 2 hours.
  • You are responsible for preparing your stock and making any requisite fixturing (other than the provided fixture plate) before your machining time slot.
  • Anodization will be available as a finishing process. For anodizing, the part/s must be aluminum only (pressed in steel pins or other materials will ruin your part) and must have a 1/4-20 tapped hole somewhere. A custom adaptor can be made for your part that includes this tapped hole.

Materials
We have dedicated 6061-T6 aluminum stock for use in Candy. Other stock is subject to availability and speaking with Pete.

Setup (MiniMill)

  • The Haas will be pre-configured with a steel fixture located against a stop in the vice, with the X-Y zero set as indicated here. The part Z-zero should be set to the top of the fixture.
  • #6-32 alloy steel fasteners will be provided to attach your part to the fixture plate.
  • The tools listed in the tool table will be loaded into the toolchanger, all zeroed to the top of the fixture.
  • The Minimill tool table for Candy can be found below:
